Our village, Barzitsa, is within the province of Varna, our local town hall being in Provadiya, where wonderful restaurants and shops can be found. There is also a useful Tourist Information point.
In driving terms, Varna is about 40 minutes by motorway and Provadiya is 15 minutes.
The area abounds with history. Provadiya is at the bottom of a valley and overlooked on one side by an ancient fortification.
Scattered around the area there are numerous lakes most of which provide fishing and boating facilities.
Other towns nearby of note are Shumen, 40 minute drive and Targoavishta, 50 minute drive. Shumen is interesting with a lot of building and history from the communist era. Targoavishta is famous for wine, and very nice wine it is too! The famous Stone Forest, pictured above, is 30 minutes along the old Sofia - Varna road.
Further south there is another wine area at Karnobat and links by road to Turkey and Greece.
For the more adventurous of you there is Paintballing, Go-Karting, 4x4 Off Road Driving and Waterparks. Transport and Directions available to all these facilities.
